Job Coaching for Adults on the Autism Spectrum

You deserve the opportunity to work and be successful.

Engaged Employment job coaches are experienced in helping clients with autism and intellectual disabilities find and keep competitive employment opportunities. We help our clients move beyond training programs or sheltered workshops and begin working side by side with other workers for the same pay.

Our staff help clients through the entire process of assessment, job development, applications, interviewing, and on-the-job coaching. Our goal is to get you a job you enjoy doing and doing it well.

We serve clients in the Upstate of South Carolina, specifically Spartanburg County and parts of Greenville County. If you have (or know of someone) autism or an intellectual/developmental disability who may be a good candidate for employment, please contact us for more information.

What is the Roadmap to Competitive Employment*?

1)

Assessment

We begin by meeting with the client joined by a parent/guardian and case worker (if available) to learn some background information and begin developing an employment plan. Note: Each person has specific needs and all plans are customized to your needs on a step-by-step basis.

2)

Community-Based Instruction

Our experienced job coach takes the client out into the community to gain a better understanding of the individual’s abilities and needs.

3)

Job Development

This is the “nuts and bolts” of finding jobs, filling out applications, visiting employers, and interviewing. We understand client has different needs, so we use an individualized and customized approach in every case.

4)

On-the-job Training/Coaching

Our job coaches work closely with both the employer and client to ensure success from a technical standpoint (learning the job) and a relational standpoint (overcoming communication barriers and building relationships).

5)

Fade Out

Nothing lasts forever. When the time is right, your job coach gradually leaves the client to work independently, while maintaining contact with the employer and checking in with the client.

* Competitive employment is work performed in the integrated labor market in which the individual is compensated by the employer at or above minimum wage, but not less than the customary wage and benefits paid for the same or similar work performed by individuals who do not have a disability.
